Samsung Droid Charge Gingerbread Update Going Out Next Week?
Yesterday, we saw that Samsung had published the source code to Gingerbread for the Droid Charge; problem was, there had yet to be any such update delivered to Charge owners. The fact that the source was now up had us convinced it shouldn’t be much longer before said update finally arrived, dragging the Charge out of the days of Froyo. Today some news suggests the phone’s Gingerbread update will start going out next Tuesday, November 29.
Verizon already has the release notes for the update posted up on its Charge support page; we usually see such a move made in the week leading up to a new software release, so that fits with the rumored November 29 date. As should be expected, this is a huge update for the Charge, and will have system-wide changes. Beyond the standard Gingerbread features, there will also be the usual set of phone-specific tweaks, including some here that improve the performance of both audible and vibration alerts.
All told, according to Verizon, you should see improvements to the following phone systems: Audio Output, Bluetooth, Camera, Data Connectivity, Data Usage App, Email Client, EAS Email and Calendar syncing, GPS, HDMI Output, SMS / MMS Messaging, Visual Voice Mail, Web Browser, and Video on Demand.
