Gmail Returns to the App Store; Second Time’s the Charm?

Earlier this month, Google brought a native Gmail app to iOS for the very first time. Unfortunately, the release probably couldn’t have gone any worse, and a prominent bug forced Google to pull the app from Apple’s App Store. Now, a couple weeks later, Google is ready for round two, re-introducing a slightly-updated version of Gmail.

The glaring issue with the original Gmail app was a severely broken notification system. Notifications wouldn’t show-up as expected, and the app shouted cryptic error messages as it complained to users. With today’s release, notifications should finally be functioning as expected.

We pointed out some other complaints users had with the app while it was available, and apparently Google’s been listening, too. Things like support for multiple accounts and special mobile signatures are coming in future releases; Google says it will be cranking them out pretty quickly, which sounds great by us. While today’s release is mainly about the notifications issue, Google already had time to implement one such change, modifying how images are displayed so that they more properly fit to your phone’s screen.

Gmail 1.0.2 is now available in the App Store.
