HTC Zeta: Another Quad-Core Android? [UPDATE]

We recently showed you the HTC Edge, which we expect to arrive next year as a quad-core Android. What about future plans for quad-core phones beyond the Edge? This evening, a new rumor has surfaced that claims HTC has another quad-core called Zeta that it’s working on, with specs that surpass even those of the Edge.

The supposed Zeta is pictured above, and it’s certainly a departure from what we think of an HTC phone as looking like. That gets our spidey senses tingling in overtime, worried this might be the work of an over-eager HTC fan rather than one of the company’s own efforts. That said, this could be legitimate (the presence of detailed size/weight information in the rumored specs is oddly specific) and foretell a new direction HTC is taking with its handset design.

The Zeta is said to feature a quad-core chip running at an astound 2.5GHz. Add in a gigabyte of RAM, 32GB storage, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Sense, and you’ve got a pretty impressive-sounding phone. Other rumored specs include an eight-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facer, and an 1830mAh battery.

Update: Engadget has poked-around a little more into the origins of the Zeta image they were provided, and now feels it’s just a concept design, as we feared.
