Amazon Brings Its Price Check App to Android

Apple users already know about Amazon’s Price Check, an iOS app that can help you compare prices in brick-and-mortar stores against the best deals online. With the holiday shopping season in full-swing, Amazon is expanding the reach of Price Check by finally releasing a version for Android.

When you snap a picture of a product’s barcode, Price Check searches Amazon and other websites to see who’s carrying that item, and displays a breakdown of what it costs, where. If you ever get the feeling at a store like you could be saving a lot of money by waiting and buying something online, this gives you a quick way to verify your suspicions. In addition to barcodes, you can use pictures of the covers of media like books and DVDs to search for those items, enter in your query as a voice search, or just type the product’s name in the old-fashioned way.

If this all sounds familiar to you, we don’t blame you, because we’ve seen this same sort of functionality on Android before in the form of Google Shopper. Since both apps are free, it might be worth a little experimentation to see if the kinds of products you shop for have better deals available with one app over the other.
