Apple Releases iOS 5.0.1 Beta With Battery Life Fix

The latest version of iOS has just been made available as a beta release for developers, and among other fixes and improvements, Apple has included a patch to address the battery life issues we’ve been talking about.

Apple recently addressed the topic of the battery problems, saying, “we have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks”. Developers get the first crack at that fix today, so hopefully we’ll soon be hearing if Apple’s efforts were successful. It’s interesting to note that Apple mentions several bugs causing this issue, meaning it may be more complicated than the Location Services theory we looked into.

Thick Aussie accents should now be less of problem for the OS to recognize when taking dictation. Unspecified bugs with Documents on iCloud are being addressed, as are some security issues. There’s also a new way for developers to specify key files that should be retained by the OS, even when it’s under a space crunch.
