We recently learned of LG’s plans to deny its dual-core Optimus 2X an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, a regrettable fate for the smartphone if the news ends up panning-out. Despite that rather large setback, the future isn’t entirely dim for Optimus 2X owners; LG just revealed that Gingerbread updates are on the way, not just to the 2X, but for the Optimus 3D and Optimus Black as well.
The Optimus 2X will be the first to have its shot at Gingerbread. According to its Facebook page, LG will begin distribution of the update tomorrow, November 1. A few weeks later on, it will be the Optimus 3D’s turn, with plans for its update to start going out on November 21. Rounding-out the month, The Optimus Black will get its first taste of Gingerbread on November 28.
These start-times for Gingerbread distribution are only for users on European carriers. LG has said that a global roll-out will be taking place, following these releases, but at least some users, like owners of the G2x on T-Mobile, have already upgraded to Android 2.3. There’s no publicly-available schedule for those future distribution plans.
