Which Platform Has the Most Expensive Apps?

As developers scramble to get their apps in all three major app stores–the Windows Phone Marketplace, the Android Market, and the Apple App Store–we’re starting to see the same app become available on multiple device types, which is great. What’s interesting is how the prices differ, often significantly, between platforms. We did a survey of the most popular cross-platform apps. On average, Windows Phone apps are the most expensive, with iOS apps coming in with the best prices. This might very well have to do with scale: developers are willing to price their apps lower on the iOS app store not only because there is more price competition (with over 500,000 apps now), but also because they think they’ll sell many more apps at the lower price.
