HTC to Thunderbolt Owners: Gingerbread Available Soon

It looked like an official release of Gingerbread for the HTC Thunderbolt might finally be on its way late last month, but shortly after the update started going out, the discovery of unexpected bugs in the code forced Verizon to put a halt to things, and send HTC back to the drawing board. There hasn’t been a formal follow-up announcement since the incident, but HTC recently tweeted a little status update to let Thunderbolt owners know they’re not forgotten.

According to the tweet, both HTC and Verizon expect the new-and-improved Thunderbolt Gingerbread update to be ready “soon”. It doesn’t look like there will be much warning when it drops, with HTC noting that users should just refer to their phones for news of when a new update is available for download. That’s one way to go, but we suggest checking up on Verizon’s support page for the smartphone, which will likely see its documentation updated to reflect this new build shortly before it arrives.

As for just when that will be, “soon” is plenty open to interpretation, but it doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect another try at bringing Gingerbread to the Thunderbolt before the end of the month.
