AT&T’s Five New Android Phones: Motorola, Samsung, Pantech, ZTE

AT&T today announced no less than five Android smartphones to join its portfolio of devices, with even more coming in the fourth quarter. The new arrivals are the Motorola ATRIX 2, Samsung DoubleTime, Samsung Captivate Glide, Pantech Pocket and the AT&T Avail.

The Motorola Atrix 2 is a refresh for the older Atrix and packs a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM, 2GB microSD card (expandable to 32GB), 4.3-inch qHD screen, eight-megapixel camera with LED flash and 1080p recording, front-facing webcam, 4G HSPA+ 21 Mbps (Category 14) capable radio, Lapdock 100 Accessory and Android 2.3 Gingerbread on-board.

The Samsung DoubleTime is an interesting device which will appeal to some (and probably not to others) with its dual touch screens and full flip keyboard. It sports a modest Qualcomm processor clocking at 600MHz, 3.2-inch HVGA display, 260MB of on-board memory, microSD card slot with support for up to 32GB (2GB microSD card included) and an outdated Android 2.2 Froyo operating system.

Another 4G Android smartphone is the Samsung Captivate Glide with its 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 AP20H dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, microSD card slot accepting up to 32GB, 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED screen, eight-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 1.3-megapixel front facer, 4G HSPA+ 21 Mbps (Category 14) capable radio, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread on-board.

The Pantech Pocket is targeted for customers focused on social entertainment and messaging. It has a strange SVGA (800 x 600) screen with four-inches in size, around 600MB internal memory, 2GB microSD card included, five-megapixel camera with flash and HD video recording, 4G support, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread to power it all.

Last but not least, the prepaid ZTE-made AT&T Avail which runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and has 512MB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, 2GB on a microSD card, 3.5-inch screen, five-megapixel autofocus camera and probably a very low price tag. It will be offered via GoPhone, AT&T’s pre-paid offering.
