RIM Introduces NFC-Based ‘BlackBerry Tag’ To Share and Connect
RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie unveiled RIM’s ‘BlackBerry Tag today while holding his keynote at the GITEX conference in Dubai. Tag is a new way for BlackBerry users to connect with one another and share multimedia content.
The next BlackBerry 7 OS update will include BlackBerry Tag and with its features users will be able to share information, such as contact information, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia content, by simply bumping their devices together.
With the help of NFC (Near Field Communication), BlackBerry Messenger users will also be able to add each other to their friends list by using BlackBerry Tag. Current NFC-enabled phones like the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 and BlackBerry Curve 9350/9360/9370 will be the first ones to get Tag but RIM is also making the APIs public so that developers can incorporate “tap to share” in their own applications.
