Samsung Transform Ultra Hits Boost Mobile As First Gingerbread

Boost Mobile announced last month that it would soon be offering its subscribers the chance to pick up Samsung’s new Transform Ultra QWERTY slider. Now launch day is upon us, making the Transform Ultra the first Gingerbread Android to join the ranks at Boost.

More than just the first Gingerbread, it’s also arguably the most powerful smartphone on the carrier, with its 1GHz processor surpassing the Samsung Prevail’s 800MHz. It’s imagery capabilities are also a step-up from the Prevail; even though the Transform Ultra has a relatively low-res three-megapixel main camera, it beats the Prevail’s two-megapixel and adds in the presence of a VGA front-facer.

This is definitely a step in the right direction for Boost, but we’d love to see some even more options when it comes to modern smartphone hardware. The Transform Ultra is still mid-tier, any way you cut it; we don’t expect something like the Galaxy S II on a carrier like Boost anytime soon, but it would be nice to see some additional mid-tier phones arrive, at least to offer a variety of form-factors. For now, at least, you can score the Transform Ultra for about $230.
