WP7 Gets High Marks from HTC, Low from Sony Ericsson

Just like users, OEMs often disagree on chances a platform has to beat/match others. HTC is giving Windows Phone the thumbs up while Sony Ericsson is more careful regarding its chances to beat Android.

As more than 30% of total HTC device sales are now represented by Windows Phone, Melvin Chua, HTC’s Singapore Manager said they “believe that Windows Phone 7 will eventually be better than other platforms and will give Android a run for its money”. With Windows Phone 7.5 Mango being pushed out and devices starting to become available soon, the sales percentage could gain some more points as currently a Connected Intelligence report points out that four out of ten smartphone owners, and people looking to buy one, are considering purchasing a Windows Phone.

Sony Ericsson’s CEO Bert Nordberg is not that delighted about the Redmond platform when it comes to comparing it with Android. He said that “at this point I wouldn’t feel comfortable investing in a platform that isn’t as good as the one that we currently use<...> Therefore we have remained with Android, but I am quite curious about Windows Phone”. Sony Ericsson never made a Windows Phone that made it to the market even though it was considered a launch OEM partner.
