Microsoft Kills Location Bug With Mango, Ends ‘Locationgate’

We’re positive that you remember everything regarding the Apple “locationgate” and then the one hitting Windows Phone, where location information was sent to servers prior to users actually opting for the service.

Rafael Rivera, the man behind a huge part of the research concerning location behaviour on Windows Phone has now concluded that “Windows Phone “Mango” no longer sends location data prior to being granted permission to do so. The behavior I’m now seeing is perfectly aligned with Microsoft’s letter to the U.S. House of Representatives“.

This information is now confirmed and it looks like Redmond made good on its promise to fix some the issues (they even admitted there was an unwanted behavior when using the Me Tile). Windows Phone Mango is rolling out to all devices running the Redmond platform and will fix the location issues.
