LG Rolling Out Optimus 3D Update, Still Froyo but 3D (Report)

The LG Optimus 3D, just like its American brother (the AT&T Thrill 4G), comes with Android 2.2 Froyo out-of-the-box which is really holding back some people from purchasing an otherwise great phone. Some regions will get Gingerbread this month but the firmware which just became available is still Froyo.

With a V10K version number, the new Optimus 3D ROM is still Android 2.2 but this time it’s got the 3D Game Converter software baked in. That means that the phone will automatically take 2D-games and convert them into 3D, taking advantage of the phone’s main selling point: the auto-stereoscopic glasses-free 3D screen. While an over-the-air update is not available, European (unlocked) Optimus 3D users could reportedly access the refresh using LG’s PC utility.
