Minecraft Ending Xperia Play Exclusive With Wide Release Thursday

So far a title exclusive to Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play, the Android port of Minecraft will soon be finding a broader audience, thanks to the developers revealing today that the Play’s monopoly on Minecraft Pocket Edition would be coming to an end this Thursday with the release of the app for the rest of the Android family.

The big change will be the inclusion of on-screen touch controls instead of utilizing the Play’s dedicated hardware inputs. A video preview has been released, and the controls look pretty standard for a strafe-and-look first person title. Graphical indicators will let you know how much longer it will take for you to finish destroying a block, accomplished by holding your finger on an already-placed block. Sure, resource requirements would go through the roof, but smartphones are only getting faster and being equipped with more memory; let’s give it a shot, Mojang!
