Web Stats Suggest Ice Cream Sandwich Will Be Android 4.0
Ice Cream Sandwich is nearly here for Android fans to sink their teeth into, but just where will it fit into the Android release numbering scheme? There’s been talk of the operating system as both Android 2.4 and Android 4.0, but we haven’t seen confirmation of either. Looking at what meager evidence is available, however, there’s a case to be made for Ice Cream Sandwich being Android 4.0
The theory behind this inquiry is that, in the weeks leading up to the release of Ice Cream Sandwich, engineers will be stepping-up their testing. That means, among other things, visiting plenty of websites. The guys over at Droid-life sat down to look at their connection statistics, and noticed that about midway through September, phones self-identifying as Android 4.0 devices started showing up in log files.
Granted, it’s trivial to fake that kind of information, but the fact that it’s just Android 4.0 devices showing up there’s no trace of anything looking like 2.4 and the proximity to the expected release of Ice Cream Sandwich makes us think that this really could be a legit indication of how Google intends to number the OS.
