Adobe Releases CreatePDF; Lets You Do Just That On Your iPhone

Adobe has just released a new App called CreatePDF, which in a sense does just that with your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. It converts your documents or imagery into PDF (Portable Document Format) files through Adobe’s servers, so an Internet connection is required at all times during its use. Call this one of the missing links in the challenge to turn any iPad or iPhone into a real work machine that’ll allow you to share your work with others in a secure manner.

Its features include:

– The creation of PDF files that look exactly like the original using the same technology as Adobe Acrobat.

– Consistent, high-fidelity PDF conversion independent of device or software. Uses Adobe’s online services to ensure there is no compromise on quality or performance. The service does not keep a copy of your original or the PDF document.

– Creates PDF files that meet accessibility standards.

– Preserves links, end notes, foot notes and creates bookmarks automatically in PDF files converted from Office documents

– Preserves Transitions and converts Multi-media Content for Power Point files.

It supports:

– MS Word (docx, doc), Excel(xlsx, xls), PowerPoint (pptx, ppt)

– Adobe Illustrator (ai), Photoshop (psd) and InDesign (indd)

– Images – JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF

– RTF, Text and WordPerfect

– OpenOffice and StarOffice documents

The way this works is that you’ll bring the files to CreatePDF via email attachments, local storage or a cloud network. Exporting your content to a PDF file requires email sharing or opening PDFs in a third party app though, which is kind of ironic. Sadly it doesn’t come at a cheap price. It’s a universal app that works on all iOS devices for $9.99 and requires iOS 4.3 or later. Hit iTunes if you’re interested, though keep in mind there are cheaper solutions that’ll do most of the features Adobe offers in their native app.
