Hurricane Fears Delay Samsung’s US Galaxy S2 Event
Earlier this month, we learned of Samsung’s plans to hold an event next Monday, on August 29. At first we speculated that it might have something to do with the anticipated release of the Galaxy S2 in the United States. Sure as sugar, this week the company released a teaser video for the Galaxy S2 coming to the US, making the event essentially a lock for the the GS2’s state-side debut. With the 29th nearly upon us, we’re hearing that Samsung has elected to delay the event, which is now rescheduled for August 30.
Apparently, mother nature isn’t as keen for the GS2 as we are, and she’s sending Hurricane Irene straight up the eastern seaboard towards New York City, getting there shortly before Samsung’s plans were to get underway. It’s still too soon to say just how badly the metropolitan area will get hit, but New York officials are already planning for the worst, already ordering evacuations and readying a transportation shut-down.
Rather than put anyone at risk, Samsung is going to play things safe and wait until the storm is expected to be well past the area. We may hate how long we’ve already had to wait, but just one more day, and for such a legitimate reason, sounds A-OK with us.
