Sprint Announces BlackBerry Bold 9930, Torch 9850 Availability
Verizon announced its carriage of one of RIM’s latest BlackBerry offerings, the Bold 9930. The CDMA version of the Bold 9900, we’ve been expecting the phone for both Verizon and Sprint. Last week we got a sneak peak at a render of Sprint’s 9930, and now the carrier is detailing the smartphone’s launch, along with that of the BlackBerry Torch 9850.
Like Verizon’s 9930, Sprint will offer the smartphone for about $250 on-contract. This confirms the leaked release info that we had seen, including the fact you’ll be able to get your hands on the 9930 starting on August 21. The Bold is the thinnest BlackBerry to date, runs BlackBerry OS 7, and includes support of NFC transmissions.
While Verizon just had one BlackBerry to announce today, Sprint also has the Torch 9850. Just like the Bold, we saw information on this phone’s Sprint launch leak out last week, and just like the Bold, today’s announcement confirms what we had heard. Again, the phone will arrive on Sprint on August 21. The Torch is a more affordable option than the Bold, running about $150 on-contract (counting the $50 American Express prepaid card Sprint is throwing in). It’s also powered by the latest BBOS 7.
