AT&T Getting BlackBerry Torch 9810 On August 21 [Update]
The BlackBerry floodgates have opened, at least when it comes to learning of release dates for US carriers. First we heard from Verizon with its Bold 9930, and then later Sprint, launching the 9930 as well as the Torch 9850. All three of those models are slated for release on August 21. Now we’ve got one more to add to the list, thanks to BlackBerry chiming-in about AT&T’s plans to start selling the Torch 9810 on August 21, as well.
AT&T announced plans to carry the Torch 9810, along with the Torch 9860 and Bold 9900, earlier this month. In doing so, it revealed that the 9810, with HSPA+ support, would be the first BlackBerry device on its network to be considered 4G. News of the smartphone’s release date comes courtesy of the “BlackBerry for AT&T” Facebook account, which posted the information to its wall this morning. Unlike the rest of the BlackBerry release announcements, this one’s lacking pricing info.
We might have guessed August 21 for the AT&T launch of the Bold 9900 and Torch 9860 as well, since that seems to be the go-to release date for this group of phones, but then why weren’t they announced this morning alongside the 9810? There might be a slightly longer wait in store for that pair.
Update: AT&T’s own Facebook page gives us a price: about $50 on-contract.
