Compal Ships WP Devices Next Month To Nokia, Prices Below Android
We told you that Compal Communications will be manufacturing Windows Phones for Nokia and Acer back when the deal was announced at the end of June. It now appears that the first Nokia Windows Phones will be shipped by Compal, which was contracted for two million devices, in September.
According to Chris Weber, Nokia’s head of North American sales, the Finnish manufacturer no longer intends to sell devices independently but through carriers. Also, one of its Windows Phones will be priced lower than the cheapest Android phone in order to gain market share. This way, Weber is convinced that Nokia will pull off “one of the greatest turnaround stories in history”.
The majority of Windows Phones from Espoo will start hitting markets in 2012 even though 2011 will most probably see a Nokia Windows Phone, probably the already leaked SeaRay.
