Joe Belfiore: Windows Phone Mango 09/01 Launch Just A Rumor

We’ve heard recent rumors about Microsoft’s alleged plans to launch its upcoming platform refresh, Windows Phone Mango, on September 1. Having the OS out at the beginning of next month would give it the buzz it needs to succeed with the upcoming IFA 2011 in Berlin and will also give it a couple of weeks advantage over Apple’s iOS 5 (not to mention Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich).

It appears that Microsoft’s plans aren’t really following that logic. Despite having the code ready and sent to OEMs, as Windows Phone Mango has been RTM’d, Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore tweeted that the September 1 launch rumor is just a rumor. Well, rumors can turn to reality but it looks like Microsoft has other plans, or at least they are trying to appear so. Regardless, Redmond should focus on getting the platform and its phones out “yesterday” as the initial version of Windows Phone doesn’t seem to be that attractive to users.
