Apple Is Now The World’s Largest Smartphone Manufacturer

This has been news in our last two iReviews, but it seems that more credible firms like IDC are joining the crowd and confirming that Apple is now the largest Smartphone manufacturer by both volume and revenue and then followed by Samsung. Now remember the key words here are “Smartphone Manufacturer”. Surely Nokia still remains the king of Feature phones, and Android still is the largest Smartphone OS in the market.

If we added up all the Android smartphone manufacturers, this would be a different story, but still, it’s interesting to see what Apple can do by just selling one phone on very limited carriers across the globe. With sales increasing 141.7% in average year over year, and a yearly cycle of sales for the iPhone 4 that doesn’t seem to slow down, it makes us wonder why the competition hasn’t been able to pull similar sales on at least their whole smartphone product line combined.

We could assume that competitors could turn this around in the future, but I sometimes wonder if that’s possible any more when Apple didn’t sell phones just four years ago and is now beating those that already did as far as a decade earlier in some cases.
