Windows Phone 7 Build 7.10.8200: Post-Mango “Tango” Update?
After a false start, Windows Phone 7 Mango got RTMed last week, all ready to be prepared for the upcoming wave of Mango-running hardware. That release marked build 7.10.7720 of the operating system. While those Mango devices have yet to arrive, it looks like Microsoft is making progress towards even farther-in-the-future WP7 updates, with signs of 7.10.8200 emerging.
This data comes courtesy of the Dude, Where’s My Update? app, which lets users view stats of how many other WP7 users are on which version of the OS. Sure enough, 8200 was spotted amongst the entries, indicating that it’s currently in testing.
What would 8200 look like? Some suggestions include Internet Explorer 10, Skype integration (now that Microsoft’s acquired the company), additional language options, and new mobile payment functionality.
We know that Microsoft is naming its Windows Phone 7 releases with codenames ending in long “o” sounds. Right now, we’ve yet to hear from a reliable source what this post-Mango, pre-Apollo update might find itself called, but one suggestion that seems to have stuck is Tango. It seems odd to have a rhyming series of releases, but you never know.
