Motorola Confirms September Droid Bionic Launch

Let’s put an end to some of this Motorola Bionic release date guesswork here and now. No less than Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha discussed the Bionic in a call to investors today, stating unequivocally that the Bionic will hit stores this September.

Most recently, we heard rumors that the Bionic wouldn’t get here until September, but were awaiting something a little more official; we’d feel better hearing from Verizon, as well, but otherwise this is about as official as you can get. Earlier, August 4 came up as a potential release date, and as recent as earlier this week we’ve found support for an August release. It’s clear now that there will just be a little longer to wait for the phone.

Sure, Jha didn’t say just when in September the Bionic will be released, so there’s still some mystery remaining. September 1 is one date we’ve heard, and as a Thursday, it makes sense for a Verizon release. Waiting until September will likely put the Bionic up against the next-gen iPhone; let’s hope Motorola knows what it’s doing with the release this time, and we don’t see the Bionic sent back to the drawing board yet again in a bid to stay current.
