Verizon Readies For Motorola Droid X2 Gingerbread, Blur Update

A recent update soak test for the Motorola Droid X2 had us wondering if the time had finally arrived for the release of a Gingerbread update for the smartphone. All we knew was that Motorola was calling it the “Droid X2 July 2011 update soak”, without a hint of what might be lurking inside. Gingerbread would be coming to the X2 eventually, but we weren’t sure if this would mark the time for its arrival. Sure enough, it looks like Gingerbread for the X2 is nearly here, with Verizon updating its X2 support pages in anticipation of the release.

Software 1.3.232.MB870 brings the Droid X2 up to Gingerbread, along with updating the Motorola to the latest version of Blur, as seen on the Droid 3. As we’re used to seeing, there are also some device-specific features in this update, like a fix to keep X2’s screen from inadvertently going black, better behavior when connected to an HDMI-out cable, and some general stability improvements to cut down on unwanted resets.

The update doesn’t appear to be available for download and installation just yet, but Verizon often updates these support pages several days in advance of an update’s release. Keep checking your smartphone and it should show up in due time.
