T-Mobile LG G2x Gingerbread Update Now OTA, Helps Fix Resets

Frustrations with LG’s G2x on T-Mobile had been nearing a head last week, with news of a lawsuit accusing LG of failing to live up to its warranty obligations by continuing to fail to repair glitchy smartphones. The handset’s saving grace had long been seen as a coming update that would address these problems once and for all, breaking the cycle of device resets. Late in the week that update finally arrived, but only reached users who side-stepped T-Mobile and turned directly to LG’s PC-based update software. Then we heard about new G2xs coming with all the updates already installed when sold through T-Mobile retailers. Now it’s time for everyone to receive the update, with T-Mobile finally starting OTA distribution.

For users who have been enjoying their G2x phones without issue, the highlight of this release is just going to be Gingerbread itself. For the unfortunate with more obstreperous handsets, T-Mobile’s release notes that the update “helps address unexpected reboots” will be music to your ears. Users from both camps will enjoy the increased battery life the update is said to bring.

The update is going out OTA currently, but T-Mobile hasn’t made any statement about how long it may take to get to all users.
