Samsung Probably Selling More Phones Than Apple, Beats iPhone?
If you’ve watched our latest episode of the Pocketnow iReview, you probably learned that, among others, Apple appears to be outselling Nokia by volumes. Cupertino reportedly sold 20.3 million iPhones, more than Nokia’s 16.7 million but before you make a judgment, The India Times reports that Samsung probably outsold both.
Samsung’s smartphone sales are estimated anywhere in between 18 million and 21 million units. These are global numbers for the second quarter of the year. Needless to say, if the real numbers turn out to be towards 18 million, Apple remains the king. If, on the other hand, numbers tend towards 21 million, we have a new winner. The initial information comes from Neil Mawston from London’s Strategy Analytics and, if the margin would be tighter, we could draw an unequivocal conclusion.
However, the same analyst thinks that “Samsung and Apple will be at similar levels in smartphones by the end of the year”. Regardless of which one of the two companies is first, we have two new manufacturers — none of them called Nokia — fighting for the top spot. No wonder they’re battling in court too!
