Problems in RIM-land seem to continue as the Canadian smartphone manufacturer is preparing to cut 2,000 jobs as part of cuts to eliminate redundancies. Meanwhile, it’s COO, Don Morrison, is preparing to step down after more than ten years with Research in Motion.

The goal is to “focus on areas that offer the highest growth opportunities and alignment with RIM’s strategic objectives”. In order to reach that goal, RIM is letting 2,000 people go from North America and “certain other countries”, after which it will be staffed by around 17,000. They will receive the notice sometime this week with the remaining cuts being announced “at a later date subject to local laws and regulations”.
