While Apple’s iPhone has a proper home in the US on AT&T and now Verizon, the smartphone’s long-time unofficial haunt has been on T-Mobile. Though users have been missing out on 3G service without support for T-Mobile’s bands, they could make do by falling back to lower-speed EDGE data over the supported GSM frequencies. It’s not an ideal situation, but if you’re married to T-Mobile for whatever reason, and can find a fast WiFi connection when you really need to get some downloading done, it works, in a pinch. That was fine in the past, but with the iPhone 4, the handset now took a micro SIM, rather than the full-sized chip. You could try carving down your T-Mobile SIM so it would fit, but now there’s a nice, clean solution available, thanks to T-Mobile kicking off sales of its own micro SIMs.
It’s interesting that, in describing these cards, T-Mobile specifically notes how this is perfect for use in an iPhone. We know that a large number of iPhones are in service on T-Mobile, but it’s rare to see the carrier officially embrace the group like this.
If you’ve got an unlocked GSM iPhone 4 and are looking to get your 2G on, head on over to T-Mobile’s website to score one of the micro SIM cards today.
