Verizon Backtracking on Motorola Droid 2 Global Gingerbread?
Motorola’s Droid 3 may be upon us, and according to a leaked document that we saw earlier this month, that means that the Droid 2 Global’s Gingerbread update should be nearly here; time’s rapidly running out on the claim that the update will “be available soon after the Droid 3 launch.” The delay might turn out to be longer than we’d like, with word that Verizon has updated its D2G support page to no longer speak of an upcoming Gingerbread release.
Gingerbread problems may also extend beyond the D2G, with rumors that Motorola’s running into big problems preparing the updates for its Verizon smartphones. This spells bad news for owners of the the Droid Pro and original Droid 2, as well. Reportedly, Motorola is trying to address these problems with its Gingerbread update first on the Droid X; once everything’s copacetic, presumably the update with similar fixes in place could finally head out to the rest of these smartphones.
Despite these setbacks, it looks like the “Droid X2 July 2011 update soak” is still going ahead as planned, so Motorola’s update progress isn’t at a complete standstill, but we doubt that’s much comfort to so many Droid-family users, eagerly awaiting Gingerbread.
