Another Galaxy Q: Low-End QWERTY Slider For Canada?
Canadian carriers are suddenly interested in breaking down smartphones into additional categories, hoping to make it easier for consumers to assess if a particular model’s a powerhouse, of if it’s barely more capable than a feature phone. Bell is calling some models “superphones”, while Rogers has its “Smartphone Lite”. The leaked Rogers documentation discussing these lite models mentions a few examples, including the Samsung Galaxy Q, but is this the same Galaxy Q we’ve heard of before?
Last summer, we heard about a Galaxy Q that would supposedly have a three-inch screen and be a miniaturized version of the Epic 4G. Much more recently, a wholly different device has been called the Galaxy Q, this time a model with a tablet-boundary-pushing 5.3-inch display.
According to MobileSyrup’s source, the Galaxy Q Rogers is talking about sounds more like the one we talked about last summer, except this one will only be available in Canada, may ship with Gingerbread, and though no hard specs are available, the smartphone will presumably be of the sort of low-end hardware that would relegate a model to “lite” status. All we know is that the Galaxy Q is supposed to come out sometime in Q3. It’s supposedly the phone in the middle of the photo above.
