HP Pre 3 Getting A New Dual-Core Processor Before Launch?
Hewlett Packard’s Pre 3 is nearly upon us, with US sales anticipated to begin later in July, and HP accepting pre-orders for the smartphone in Europe, shipping soon. Is it too late, though, for a little hardware revision? A page on HP’s site suggests that the Pre 3 may be in store for a new processor.
We’ve been expecting the Pre 3 to run a single-core 1.4GHz chip, but a specs page for the Pre 3 in the UK is showing the smartphone running a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon. Could we be looking at regional differences in how the smartphone is configured, possibly addressing supply-chain issues with component availability?
The idea of two Pre 3 versions is intriguing; we can’t help but wonder how they’d stack up against each other in both performance and battery trials. That said, is it likely to happen? We’re going to have to lean towards “not very”, for several reasons. HP’s already been accepting pre-orders for the handset, with the processor type clearly noted, and it couldn’t very well change its mind about what product it’s delivering after the fact. Then on the specs page that displays this new CPU variant, there’s a trace of errant, incomplete HTML tagging; could this be a typo or some kind of database error? It seems a bit more likely than a last-minute hardware change.
