Fujitsu Launching IS12T, First Mango Handset, August In Japan?

Earlier this week, Microsoft gave us a brief glimpse at some upcoming Windows Phone 7 hardware. The Mango-running handsets included models from Samsung, Acer, ZTE, and Fujitsu. There’s been a bit of chatter about the hot-pink Fujitsu model in the meantime, noting its similarities to one of the company’s Androids, and now we’re hearing that the smartphone could be one of, if not the first Windows Phone 7 Mango device to be released.

This news comes out of Japan, where the language barrier makes it difficult to confirm any of this, but it seems that Japanese carrier KDDI may have just announced that Fujitsu’s IS12T Windows Phone 7 Mango smartphone will launch on the carrier in late August.

The IS12T would have the waterproof construction that Microsoft mentioned, and would supposedly feature a 3.7-inch display. Beyond that, though, we still have plenty of questions about the handset. It seems pretty unlikely that Microsoft would want the first Mango smartphone debuting in Japan, but stranger things have happened. Could this mean we’ll also be hearing of other WP7 Mango devices also set to arrive in late August?
