Samsung Galaxy S2 Gingerbread 2.3.4 Leaked

Samsung’s Galaxy S2 is back in the news today; sadly, it’s not a decisive US carrier reaction to reports critizing the delay in bringing the smartphone to the States, but it’s good news nonetheless for users lucky enough to already have their hands on the phone. A leaked build of Android 2.3.4 has been released for the GS2, prepping the phone for Google Talk video.

One of the big changes in 2.3.4 is improved power management, which should hopefully lead to increased battery lifetime between charges. The only other prominent feature is the aforementioned GTalk video support, which should help put the SGS2’s front-facing two-megapixel camera to good use.

While the repsonse to this release has been largely positive, SGS2 users who have tried-out the ROM report that several existing bugs, like the lagtime when waking the phone back up, and a low-bit-depth color banding issue, are still around. At least we’re not hearing that any new problems have been introduced.

For instructions on how to install the ROM, along with download links, head over to the XDA-Developers thread. There’s a stock version of the ROM available, along with the deodexed DarkyROM2 edition.
