LG Optimus 7 Getting Mango Refresh as LG E906?

When Microsoft finally releases Mango, along with updates for existing Windows Phone 7 devices, it’s not surprising that we may start seeing the sale of some of last year’s WP7 hardware, perhaps with minor tweaks, under slightly different model numbers, especially if a manufacturer is having issues getting its new hardware out in time. We’re seeing hints that may be the case with LG and its Optimus 7, with the revelation of a very-similarly-numbered LG smartphone that appears it will arrive with Mango pre-installed.

The Optimus 7 is LG’s model number E900. A UAProfile for an unknown LG device with model number E906 is now available, and it’s largely identical to the E900’s. There are some minor formatting changes that keep the files from being identical, along with the most telling change, that the phone’s browser is now reported as IE9 rather than IE7.

It’s possible that we’re looking at an all-new LG Windows Phone device, but given the very small iteration in model number, it seems likely that this is just a hardware/software refresh instead of something more novel. Oh, we’ll see new Mango hardware from LG, sure enough, but it’s unlikely to come in the form of the E906.
