Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray Expected Release Date Outed By Retailer
Yesterday, we got the first bit of news that helped us narrow down the potential launch window for Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Ray from anytime in Q3 to sometime during the month of August. It was a start, but still a pretty broad target. That information came to us thanks to a smartphone retailer’s site; now another retailer has a Ray page up, this time offering a specific release date as well as pricing information.
Play.com announces that it’s expecting the Ray to arrive in time for sale on August 15. We knew we were dealing with a Q3 release, but this really looks like it’s going to be smack-dab in the middle of the quarter. Working out sterling-to-dollars, we can see the Android will be going for just about $560; that’s not a bad price for a new smartphone, but at that kind of money, you might want to think about looking for a dual-core handset. A single-core Snapdragon will power the Xperia Ray at 1GHz, which will run Gingerbread on its 512MB of RAM.
There’s no word yet on a release date or pricing for the ruggedized Xperia Active, announced alongside the Xperia Ray.
