Windows Phone Mango Beta 2 Dev Tools Hints Front Facing Cameras
A couple of days ago we told you that Windows Phone Mango SDK, Windows Phone 7.1 SDK to be more specific, still lists support for “SelfPortraitCamera” just like Windows Phone 7 SDK did. Together with the release of Beta 2 of the Windows Phone 7 Mango Developer Tools comes another indication towards front-facers.
While WPCentral meanwhile confirmed with “a trusted source” that “the new Mango hardware specs allow for front-facing cameras”, the screenshot above taken from the emulator sports a new button. Wherever it is present on other platforms the button serves as a toggle between the back (main) camera and the front-facing webcam. The situation is the same with Windows Phone too.
With the acquisition of Skype Microsoft doesn’t really have a choice but to support front-facing cameras in case it doesn’t want to kill the Skype experience on its own platform (and our guess is it doesn’t). We’re just waiting for official wording/hinting to get us closer to the confirmation.
