Samsung Introduces Class 10 microSD Card for Smartphones
We know that a smartphone is as fast as its slowest component and often a fast processor with a fast RAM is limited by the rather slow speeds of the microSD cards you are storing you content (of any sort) on. Samsung is coming to the rescue with its new microSD cards for smartphones.
The Korean manufacturer introduced a new 20nm-class microSD card with a speed rating of Class 10, which would deliver write speeds of up to 12MB/s and read speeds of around 24MB/s. That means is more than two times faster than your average Class 4 microSD and is achieving this by integrating 3-bit NAND flash memory chips of 32GB and a proprietary 3-bit NAND controller. Imagine playing back your 1080p video captured with your Samsung Galaxy S II from these babies!
While microSD cards considerably close the gap, NAND flash memory (soldered directly on the mainboard) still tops in terms of speeds but it’s definitely interesting to see how the line between the two worlds gets thinner and thinner.
