Leaked Droid Charge Gingerbread Update Now Available

A couple days ago, we showed you a video of a Droid Charge running a leaked Gingerbread ROM, bringing with it the ability for the smartphone to stream video through Netflix. The footage looked legit enough, though without the software available, it still seemed like a big tease. Now we’ve got good news for Charge owners who aren’t above a little experimentation on their phones: the leaked ROM has been made public, ready for you to install.

Before you get too, too excited, there are plenty of caveats to consider. This build of Gingerbread isn’t anywhere near release-ready, and some big features are still broken. SMS is a crapshoot, with sending texts completely broken, and receiving them a hit-and-miss situation. That alone should keep this build from becoming a daily driver for you. HDMI-out is also a no-go, but that’s far less of a problem for most users. Then there are the standard assortment of issues that crop up on pre-release builds, like when apps in the Market don’t recognize your phone’s software revision, and accordingly don’t appear in your searches.

You’ve got options between a couple of routes for getting the leaked ROM onto your Charge; for full details, along with links to the files you’ll need, head over to the the MyDroidWorld Charge forums via the link below.
