CF Bench App for Promises More Accurate Android Benchmarks

Some of my favorite pocketnow readers are very outspoken when it comes to benchmarking utilities. Benchmarking, if you don’t know, is the process of measuring one item against another, or against a pre-determined point of reference. In the case of benchmarking applications, a series of tests are run and the outputs are measured. These measurements are then tallied and a score is derived. This score, in theory, can be used as a point of comparison between dissimilar hardware to determine relative speed.

That’s an oversimplification, but I hope you get the point. A perfect benchmarking utility would provide a perfect comparison between devices. Unfortunately, there are so many variables involved, and so many device configurations, coming up with a perfect benchmarking utility is nearly impossible. Due to that, reports scores from several benchmarking utilities whenever possible.

This inherent problem has gotten the attention of Chainfire who has recently released his first iteration of CF Bench, which he hopes will remedy many of the problems with today’s benchmarking apps. Whether or not this is the magic bullet that our benchmark-critical readers are looking for remains to be seen, be we trust they’ll let us know if it’s not.

Give it a try and let us know what your device is and what your score is in the comments!
