Samsung Droid Charge Hotspot Fix Requires Going Back In Time

After a few false starts, Verizon finally released Samsung’s Droid Charge last month, expanding its nascent collection of LTE-capable smartphones. We weren’t exactly wowed by the Charge’s battery life and some of the software choices Verizon made, but it’s hard to compete with LTE speeds. That bandwidth comes in particularly handy when using the Charge as a mobile hotspot, during which it supports connections with up to ten devices. All of a sudden, though, Charge owners started noticing this week that their mobile hotspot apps have stopped working.

Verizon has acknowledged that there’s a problem with the app, and has provided a quick work-around. You’ll notice that when trying to start the hotspot app, nothing seems to happen; there’s no error message or FC. In order to get it working again, the trick seems to be changing your smartphone’s date so it points back to May. Apparently the transition to June was more than the app could handle. Users in Verizon’s support forums report plenty of success with this method.

Verizon is working on a more permanent fix to restore hotspot access on the Charge without forcing you to jump through such hoops.
