Texas Instruments Introduces New OMAP4470 1.8GHz Dual-Core Chip

Texas Instruments has introduced today the new, power efficient, dual-core OMAP4470 applications processor, “designed to deliver the perfect balance between processing power, graphics, display subsystem functionality and multilayered user interface (UI) composition”.

The new OMAP4470 dual-core processor brings clock speeds of up to 1.8GHz, promising 80% increase in Web browsing performance, increased memory bandwidth, a 2.5x boost in graphics functionality with the new PowerVR SGX544 GPU, and a unique hardware composition engine. The new chip will bring improvements to Android systems (alongside Linux and Microsoft Windows) and, besides the performance boost, promises less battery usage too.
