LG Genesis Launching On US Cellular June 9 For $150

US Cellular seems to be the new go-to home for cast-adrift Verizon Androids. HTC’s Merge has been flirting with Verizon for months, eventually found a place at Alltel, and a now-confirmed leaked document put the phone down for a launch today with US Cellular. LG’s enV Pro shares a similar story of being a CDMA smartphone that Verizon never got around to selling. Earlier this month, we saw a screenshot revealing US Cellular’s interest in the handset, now renamed the LG Genesis. Then, a week ago, LG outed the Genesis on its site, though US Cellular had yet to make a formal announcement. That day has finally come, with the carrier revealing that sales of the Genesis will begin on June 9.
The Genesis features an unusual design for an Android smartphone, as a flip-open clamshell QWERTY rather than the traditional slider. This arrangement lets LG outfit the Genesis with dual screens, though unlike something like the Kyocera Echo, you’ll only ever end up using one screen at a time. A 3.5-inch screen adorns the outside of the Genesis, and you’ll be greeted by a 3.2-incher when you fold open the phone to type. The Genesis will ship running Froyo, and features a single-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
Both the HTC Merge and LG Genesis on US Cellular will each run you about $150 after a $100 mail-in rebate.
