HTC: We Will No Longer Be Locking the Bootloaders

Just Wednesday we told you about HTC reviewing its policy around bootloaders and we were prepared for the worst as the Taiwanese manufacturer has applied locks to the bootloaders of a couple devices including the Incredible SSensation appears to be locked too as well as the upcoming EVO 3D.

It looks like their policy has been completely revised as Peter Chou, CEO for HTC has made a statement that the company will no longer lock down bootloaders. The statement definitely refers to the future but we suspect that currently locked bootloaders will be at one point open via a ROM update. HTC is taking the “open” approach — or more likely making the smart move in order to no alienate its customers — and is joining Sony Ericsson for delivering unlocked bootloader-packed smartphones. Wonder how the warranty issues will be handled for those couple of users that brick their smartphones due to incorrect/ROM abuse.
