T-Mobile Halts G2x Sales; Software Bugs To Blame?
T-Mobile’s G2x, the carrier-branded edition of the LG Optimus 2X, got off to a bumpy start, with confusing information from T-Mobile about the possibility for supporting AT&T 3G bands. Since then, we’ve seen work progress on CyanogenMod 7 for the smartphone, as well as the arrival of a leaked Gingerbread build. All of a sudden, though, the phone is gone from T-Mobile’s online offerings, sparking rumors that the carrier has halted sales due to any one of several issues users have been reporting with the Android handset.
The supposed problems with the G2x, ranging from software glitches to build-quality issues, seem relatively minor, and aren’t reported by all users, but the voices of customers who are suffering from these problems – especially the annoyance of incessant random resets – are loud enough to be noticeable. This isn’t to say necessarily that the smartphone’s absence from T-Mobile’s site need be related to these complaints, but something definitely seems up. Some T-Mobile customers have reported that orders for the phones have been canceled, which suggests something more than an inventory problem.
T-Mobile hasn’t made a statement in regards to its actions yet, but current G2x owners, especially those who are struggling with problematic phones, sure would be interested to hear what’s going on.
