Windows Phone 7 Hardware Partners, Where’s Dell?
With the occasion of today’s Windows Phone 7 Mango launch Event, Andrew Lees, president of Microsoft’s Mobile Communication Business, has not only confirmed the new hardware partners we posted about but talked about them as a unit.
Initial Windows Phone 7 OEMs were HTC, Samsung, LG and Dell with Acer, Fujitsu and ZTE being unveiled today. Of course, Nokia was presented as more than an OEM back in February and referred to the same way today.
If you look at the image above, you might be surprised to find out that there’s one name missing from the list: Dell. The company had one of the best-built Windows Phones out there — with its flaws of course — the Venue Pro.
Despite the leaked Dell roadmap indicating upcoming Windows Phone handsets, like the Venue Pro MLK and Wrigley, the name of the OEM was missing from Microsoft’s slides and mentions. Is it possible that Dell turned its back on Windows Phone after the not-so-bright launch of the Venue Pro?
Was it an omission or is there more to the story and Microsoft and Dell broke up in terms of Windows Phone? And if they go their separate ways, who’s decision was it?
