Microsoft To Split Zune Into Three At Tomorrow’s Mango Event?

Here’s one more rumor related to Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Mango Preview Event to be held tomorrow! After we recently heard chirps about nine upcoming Wave 2 Windows Phones, we now listen to the hear-say as it’s whispering Microsoft will tear Zune in three pieces.

According to the two MS nerd tweets above, Microsoft is planning on splitting its Zune service into three pieces tomorrow. It will purportedly be scattered into Xbox mobile, Xbox Live and Windows Live Zune. Even more, “the Zune backend platform will become a “Nokia services on Azure” offering, with content from Netflix, & Hulu among others”.

Currently Zune and Xbox Live are part of Windows Phone 7. We have heard of a certain redesigned Games Hub coming to Mango but what could Xbox mobile be? Netflix, and Hulu content is huge on its own but how would the Zune music service be impacted — both on PC and Windows Phone — when/if the split happens?

If we’re to speculate, we’d say Windows Live Zune could probably be integrated with Windows Live Messenger — a la Yahoo and its radio — or offer cloud storage integration as does Amazon, Google and will Apple — via the Windows Live branch of brands. Xbox live Zune could be the Zune offering for Windows Phones and Xbox mobile Live for Zune hardware? Or we can totally be wrong but we definitely hope the service remains and the pricing as well! We’ll definitely learn more tomorrow, or nothing at all!
