HTC Preparing for GSM EVO 3D Launch? (Image)

It’s no secret that HTC is planning an international GSM version of Sprint’s EVO 3D powerhouse, and it looks like the manufacturer may be quietly preparing that device for launch: eagle-eyed reader Gavin noticed that some of the 3D press photos on HTC’s site have been swapped out to show a model with a restyled back. As the comparison shot above makes clear, there are several noticable changes between the current rear-angle images and the ones that formerly occupied those spots: besides the red-to-gold accent color swap, we also notice the addition of an HTC Sense logo, as well a slight movement of the power button icon. Finally, the text between the camera lenses has been expanded. Clearly, this is a different phone, and HTC may finally be ready to admit such.

It seems that HTC accidentally posted the GSM EVO 3D page on its global site on March 22nd, the same day that Sprint launched its variant at CTIA. Instead of removing the entire page, however — complete with its unbranded renders — HTC simply pulled down the spec sheet which tipped the GSM bands as well as noting battery life while connected to WCDMA networks. Interestingly enough, some of the front-facing EVO images feature April 12th on the display, which makes us suspect that HTC had actually planned to unveil the GSM version alongside Sensation at that London launch event, only to change plans last minute for reasons unknown.

Last we heard, Vodafone would be first to see the international EVO 3D, as just the HTC EVO, beginning on July 11th.

Thanks: Gavin T.
