Verizon Launching Samsung Droid Charge Tomorrow, May 14

We were originally expecting Samsung’s Droid Charge on Verizon to go up for sale last month, on April 28. The sudden failure of the carrier’s LTE network jinxed things, though, and the launch was apparently canceled at the last minute. Once LTE was back up, we started looking for the Charge to reemerge, yet Verizon kept it squirreled away. While some lucky shoppers were able to find employees willing to sell them a pre-release Charge, there didn’t seem to be any progress towards an official launch. Now that day is finally here, as Verizon will launch the phone tomorrow, May 14.

We’ve confirmed the launch date with one of our tipsters, and it’s safe to say that failing another massive LTE failure, this time the launch will go forward as planned. We don’t have any word of what caused the delay to last as long as it did, but the decision to start sales tomorrow may have been a last-minute one; retail stores were just notified of the decision this morning. Walmart’s systems once noted the delay was the result of an “issue with functionality”, but no one’s yet explained what that wondrously vague turn of phrase means for the Charge.

Verizon will sell the Droid Charge on-contract for a hair under $300. Shop around at other retail partners, and you should be able to find it for $250 or less.
